Green Swamp Camping A Green Swamp Camping Permit is a type of limited entry permit required for camping on many campsites of the Green Swamp Management Area during the Archery, General Gun, Wild Hog, Small Game, Spring Turkey and Fish/Frog seasons. I called in a young hunter the second weekend of the season, but I waved him off and can honestly say he didn’t ruin a thing. Several large old swamp white oaks contribute to the canopy cover along the white, red and green ash and American and slippery elms. Also known as Green Swamp East, this area is part of the approximately 110,000 acres purchased to protect the land and water resources of the Green Swamp Basin. Some of the best hunting is in Fresno, Mendocino, Monterey, San Benito, San Luis, Obispo, Santa Barbara and Sonoma counties. On the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, wild hogs may be taken with a special permit during any deer hunt and by small game hunters after the deer season. Green Swamp West is one of the premier public hunting areas in the state for white-tailed deer. Wild hogs may be taken on any deer or bear hunt on South Cherokee WMA.
